Gulf Coast Sheep
Gulf Coast Sheep (Gulf Coast Native) originate in southern United States and descend from Spanish sheep brought by explorers in the 1500s. They are a multipurpose sheep that is used for meat, wool and milk. Their wool varies from medium to coarse, though we have found ours to have a medium fleece that spins into a lovely yarn. Their fleece is also excellent for felting projects and takes dye nicely. They can breed year round and have above average disease and parasite resistance. Most are white, some with spots. Colored sheep are also found in the breed.
